After the horror that George W. Bush created with his No Child Left Behind it is great to see that the new administration is taking an early stand on Early Childhood. http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/Education/  allows anyone to see what Obama’s stance on Education is, he realizes the importance of a child’s first five years of life and how those years can set a precedence on how that child will learn throughout their lifetime.  As a future educator it is reassuring to see that the President is committed to promoting higher education for all and is attempting to have the highest number of college graduates in the world by 2020.  Hopefully he will be able to stand behind these proposals and back them with the finances to make them come true.  As well as convincing his successor with the need to continue with the successful programs that his administration begins.

When I found this site, I thought it was very interesting. I am Native American so when I saw this, I had to read it. This website discusses the Early Childhood Education programs available to American Indian children. The American Indian Early Childhood Education (AIECE) Program was founded in the 1970s and it is designed to develop skills in reading, writing, math and other subjects in American Indian children in Pre-K through fourth grade.            In this article author Kimberly Back discusses the importance of early childhood education. Back discusses how early education not only takes place in school, but it also takes place in the womb. She also discusses how parents play a role in early education and how ultimatly, these early lessons help with better development.

Back states, “There is evidence to support that children who attend at least one year of preschool enter kindergarten with better reading, language, and math skills than children who do not. Also, children acquire immense gains in socialization. Children gain independence, are able to interact with their peers, and learn how to respect and compromise.”

Blog writing in classrooms June 30, 2009

According to Diane Penrod, blogs are seen as a new writing genre. And what better way to get students to write then incorporate the internet and the classroom? With technological advances today, we as future teachers need to incorporate technology into the classroom. Students need to write and I think a good motivation to get students to write is by getting students to blog.  Students could be publishing their resposponses to articles, essays, or they could publish their own stories or opinions — with blogs, the possiblities seem to be endless.

Blogs provide instant feedback for students and I think by providing the students with an audience it encourages them to continue writing and to improve their writing. Penrod says, “Blogs allow individuals to move from silence to articulating thier voice without the need for extensive technical knowledge. Unlike a private journal, blogs provide a genuine audience — readers who are not always a part of one’s immediate family and who respond to whatever is written.  As a result, blogs encourage the expression of a personal voice in writing.

With students spending more and more time on the internet everyday, I think by incorporating blogs into the classroom we as teachers, have a way to help them improve their writing skills and encourage them to continue to write.  Blogs provide a way for writing to be both school related and fun by incorporating today’s technologies.

I hope you enjoy this short video on how education has changed and why.

This video will go through what the classroom was like when education first started.  It will show you pencil and paper, one room classrooms.  The classroom is very different now.  There is now electronic technologies that change the way the classroom runs.  The technologies that have pushed to change the classroom is the computer.  The Internet gives classrooms the opportunity to learn and connect with people all around the world.  As teachers we are no longer tied to our text books we can open up a whole new world that a student might not other wise see.
